A Short Story : "The Hospitality Of The Pigeons"

The Hospitality Of The Pigeons

Once upon a time, there lived two pigeons. They were husband and wife. They spend their day looking for food. In the evening they would come and rest on their favorite tree in the forest.

One evening, the wife returned home early. A usual she was waiting for her husband, when suddenly it started raining. She strated to worry. “Where are you, my dear? You never get so late," she whispered to herself.

Just then she saw a bird-catcher coming towards her. In a cage he had a pigeon. It was her husband. “OH no, what shall I do now" I wish I can help my husband," she said. She desperately tried to distract the bird-catcher by flapping her wings, but all in vain.

Soon, it stopped raining. “Brrr! It is so cold," said the bird-catcher. His clothes were wet. He decided to sit under the same tree where the two pigeons lived.

The poor wife sat by her husband’s cage. And she started to cry. The husband said. “Do not feel sad, dear. We now have a guest. This man is shivering and hungry. He needs your help." Hearing this, the wife flew around getting dry twigs. She made a fire for the bird-catcher. Then she looked at the bird-catcher and said, “You are our guest, since I have no food to offer, I will jump into this fire. In few minutes I will become an edible item for you. You can eat me."

By now, the bird-catcher was overwhelmed by the hospitality of the humble pigeon couple. He at once stopped the wife jumping into the fire.

He opened the cage and set the husband free. “I have been cruel and selfish. I will never trap any bird in my net again," said the bird-catcher and went away. The two pigeons were happy to be reunited.

Polar Bear

Polar bears are the largest land carnivores in the world, rivaled only by the Kodiak brown bears of southwestern Alaska. The most carnivorous of the bear species, polar bears feed primarily on the fat of ice-dependent seals. The remains of these seals provide food for many other Arctic wildlife species, giving polar bears a vital role in their ecosystem, and the polar bear is a beautiful animal because it is fat and has a soft fur.

POPULATION AND HABITAT

The World Conservation Union (IUCN) estimates that there are between 20,000-25,000 polar bears in the world.

Polar bears are only found in the Arctic. The most important habitats for polar bears are the edges of pack ice where currents and wind interact, forming a continually melting and refreezing matrix of ice patches and leads (open spaces in the ocean between sea ice). These are the areas of where polar bears can find the greatest number of seals.

As the sea ice advances and retreats each season, individual polar bears may travel thousands of miles per year to find food. Polar bears are distributed throughout the Arctic region in 19 subpopulations, including Alaska, Canada, Russia, Greenland, and Norway.

REPRODUCTION

Pregnant polar bears need to eat a lot in the summer and fall build up enough fat reserves to survive the denning period. They seek out maternity dens in October or November. Most maternity dens are located on land where snow accumulates including along coastal bluffs, river banks or pressure ridges on sea ice.  Sows give birth to usually 1 or 3 one-pound cubs and then nurse them until they reach about 20-30 pounds before emerging from the den in March or April. The young are born from November through January while the mothers are hibernating. Cubs will remain with their mothers for a little over 2 years. Female polar bears can produce five litters in their lifetime, which is one of the lowest reproductive rates of any mammal.

DIET

Polar bears feed almost exclusively on ringed seals and bearded seals. They are also known to eat walrusbeluga whale and bowhead whale carcasses, birds’ eggs, and (rarely) vegetation. Polar bears travel great distances in search of prey.
but, many people speak about polar bears is cannibals. As usual, some Al Gore loving hippy claimed that this cannibalistic behavior was the result of climate change and lack of food etc as a result, however, a level-headed innuit noted that a male polar bear eating a cub is a normal occurrence.

Despite what we think, a polar bear's fur is white.  Each hair is a clear hollow tube.  Polar bears look white because each hollow hair reflects the light. On sunny days, it traps the sun's infrared heat and keeps the bear warm at 98 degrees F (when they're resting).
Polar bear fur is oily and water repellent. The hairs don't mat when wet, allowing the polar bears to easily shake free of water and any ice that may form after swimming.
Underneath the fur, a polar bear's skin is actually black -- the black skin soaks up the sun's heat and helps them stay warm.
Polar bears also have a 4-inch layer of fat underneath their skin.  This prevents them from losing any of their heat.  In fact, if you look at a polar bear with an infrared camera, they are pretty close to invisible (in other words, they don't give off any heat!.

Basic Training Student Leadership

Basic Training Student Leadership be held on 21 September 2017 until 23 September 2017 at Pussenif.

The first day, I came at 06:15
at the time, we were collected in a large field like a helicopter landing site.
beginning with the class division then the opening ceremony.
after the opening ceremony, we were taken to a large room for learning about leadership and we were taught by soldiers. We spend the time until 12:00 and then, we had lunch after that we pray dzuhur and back to barracks to put our bag. I was surprised how to eat there because the rice is :( and also we were given little time to lunch.
after that we continued our lessons until 21:00 and we attended night ceremony, during the ceremony, we were given clue that if we hear sirens a sign of fire, we have to get up in complete attributes.
We were awakened by sirens is a sign of fire. Fortunately, a lot of people not wearing full attributes because we wake up in half-consciously.
we took to a yard and we were given a punishment from soldiers. It's an unforgettable moment.
the night was very cold, and after we do a punishment, we slept again.

The second day, we were awakened for pray and continued gymnastics, after that we take a bath and continued our lesson in outside until 16:00
at about 16:15 we were taken by male soldiers to Taman Makam Pahlawan because we will do the Caraka Malam, after that they told me to remember a text and told us to blacken our face with a tablet.
We will pass 2 Km, in the middle of the road, we will complete a mission at the pos. I was walked with Alexa and Aliya, we walked in the darkness and in my left right there are many graves, and we pass the road with prayers.
The three of us were very frightened, but we tried not to fail in this mission
after a long walk we found the first post. At the post, we were shocked by the sound of tin cans thrown at the three of us. Immediately we shouted "Allahuakbar"
And it turned out to be the act of our soldiers and our seniors. After that, the three of us continue our journey. the three of us finished the post until about 00:30
After that, all the participants make a big circle and do the evening musings and return to pussenif by foot. After arriving at pussenif, we cleaned up and went to bed

The Third day, our morning we began with gymnastics then, take a bath, and continued our lessons "Outbonds Activities"
After we finish the activity all students are required to watch  G30SPKI movie , but in fact while watching may students who fell asleep, so did I. hehe
After that the students are told to pack the goods and prepare for the closing ceremony.

The closing ceremony is over and the Basic Training Student Leadership activities are closed.
I am very happy this event is over, a lot of memories that I passed during Basic Training Student Leadership, and many new materials that I know. I am very grateful to the soldiers as well as the teachers and our seniors who have guided us in this activities.
Unforgettable experience 😊
