October 9, 2012, a gunman shot Malala when she was traveling home from school.
She survived and has continued to speak out on the importance of education. In
2013, she gave a speech to the United Nations and published her first
book, I Am Malala. In 2014, she won the Nobel Peace Prize.
But,
the Taliban leader says that the reason for the shooting was her critical
attitude towards militant groups.

On July
12, 2013, to coincide with his 16th birthday, Malala addressed the Youth Forum
at the UN Headquarters in New York, USA. His speech contained three important
issues, namely women's rights, resistance to terrorism and stupidity. The UN
also declared the day a Malala day.

In October
2014, he and Kailash Satyarthi won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014 for their
struggle against the oppression of children and youth and to gain the right to
education for them. Malala became the youngest Nobel prize winner, because
hegot this prize at the age of 17 years.
